The Conventions 88 and 181 of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) form the international framework for the provision of public and private employment services. The World Employment Confederation (WEC) and the World Association of Public Employment Services (WAPES) are strong proponents of adequate regulation of employment services. To achieve their common goal of ensuring that more countries are adopting these vital standards, the two organisations held a webinar on Thursday 28 November to unpack how the ratification of these conventions can benefit countries, public institutions, businesses and workers.
Participants learnt about effective strategies for engaging with national governments and advancing the ratification process, deepening their understanding and ability to engage more fully in this crucial initiative. Ratifying these conventions will lead to more effective and inclusive labour markets.
In addition to speakers from the ILO, WEC and WAPES, the webinar featured concrete case studies from Australia, the Netherlands, Portugal and Africa.
