WEC to lead industry alliance on work in post Covid-19 era

Preparing for the new normal in the workplace is key to ensure economic recovery. The “Safely back to work in the new normal” Alliance initiated by Randstad, The Adecco Group and ManpowerGroup will be taken over by the World Employment Confederation, with a two-fold purpose : to assess health and safety protocols adapting workplaces to the post Covid-19 context and to demonstrate the role played by the private employment services sector in driving the economic recovery.

As many countries are emerging from the lockdown measures imposed to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, preparing for the new normal in the workplace is key to ensure economic recovery. Without clear processes and guidelines, individuals may fear for their health and businesses may be reticent to reopen.

Given its expertise on health and safety protocols and labour market developments across sectors, the private employment services industry brings unique added value in organising and implementing a safe return to work. In April 2020, the ‘Safely back to work in the new normal’ Alliance was initiated by global private employment service agencies – Randstad, The Adecco Group and ManpowerGroup.

As the Alliance has quickly broadened to involve a larger network of partners across the world, the World Employment Confederation (WEC) is taking over the project. WEC will lead and coordinate the next steps in implementing the work started within the Alliance. The initiative has developed a compendium of best practice health and safety protocols containing more than 100 measures and a practical guide for a safe restart. Some national federations of the private employment services industry are already working closely with their local authorities and other relevant stakeholders to implement these measures in their respective countries. In addition, under its new management, the Alliance project will also highlight the role played by private employment services in weathering the Covid-19 crisis and paving the road for the economic recovery.

Thanks to its membership of 45 national federations and 6 global workforce solutions companies, the World Employment Confederation can rely on a strong network to further disseminate those Health & Safety protocols across the world. The initiative will also benefit from all WEC members’ expertise in labour market research, data collection and employment-related issues.

The hand-over of the Alliance to the World Employment Confederation will be finalised early July. More details on the initiative’s future activities will be communicated then.
